The ideal image of men or women that constructed by media

The local media provide a ideal image of men and women to the society. For example, the fitness centre will construct an image that slim is beauty. The advertisements of toothpaste or toothbrush will construct an image that the ideal teeth must be white and bright.


The reason that the local media demonstrate the image of men or women is because of they want to attract the consumer to purchase their products. If they constructed the ideal image of men or women, and that become the social identity of ideal men or women. And encourage the consumer to become that ideal one. Let’s have an example of it, the cosmetics company will portray a image that beauty’s face should be white, no any wrinkles and smooth. And attract women that if you want to become a beauty you should buy their products.



And there are a big difference between the images of ideal men or women in western culture and eastern culture. For example, the ideal of men in eastern culture nowadays is that men should be gent, lovely, young and attentive to their couple needs. And there is a Chinese term called “little meat” and that is the ideal men in eastern culture nowadays. But the ideal men in western culture are masculinity, charming and gentlemen. So the social identity of different cultures are different.
