Media images and external world

To a large extent I agree with that media images are detached from the external world. Put the advertisement of shampoo as example, in most of the advertisements, female should all have long shinny hair to impress male and that is a very important way to gain their status and value which is not true in the external world. In the external world, not every individual needs the products. Using that specific brand/product is not the only way to gain attention, that is why the companies need to persuade the consumer to spend money on unessential items by using recreated "facts" and "terms" like concepts of sex appeal and feminine appeal and also terms like "better", "flirty", "long lasting" to fake the audience.
The relationship between the media image and the external reality is like what the audience wants to see vs what the facts are. Media images usually are re-enactments of actual events even sometimes in a melodramatic way; which actually a contradiction of the real world.

The information is it truth

The information is it truth

Nowadays, media is cover the entire world, people can get every information easily, but is it good or bad for media and people? The good way also is very convenient for people; they can search some information in every time and everywhere. For the bad way, people do not believe the news is truth anymore, they can find out some information on the internet is having different with the news.

Having an example here, a Chinese politician-Jiang Zemin was dying from ATV news, and then this news make a stir in the society. Obviously, this news would not real and it made some question from people about the media is it can believe anymore?

So that, we are receiver should be analysis the information is it truth in this information technology overdeveloped society. For example, we must saw some advertising a day, but the information is it truth.

For my experience, I used three of this toothpaste for twice a day, but my tooth did not any changed, I cannot saw my tooth going to white.

Therefore, we will be get some information from the media endless, so we should be analysis it is truth or not, that is receiver responsibility and defense their rights and interests.

The camera never lies. But the photographers can !

No picture no truth”, a popular phrase spread between the teens in Hong Kong, is meaning that a matter is truth if it can be shown through the picture. This is same as the phrase “The camera never lie” to express how the media images control our thoughts on every matter.

We cannot deny both phrases are well said. Yet, it is not an exactly correct statement to realise the truth. In my point of view, media images should be a part of the external reality. The external reality would be comprehended as a BIG CIRCLE that involve with different sizes of SMALL CIRCLE. Those SMALL CIRCLEs are not only media images, but also the auditory sense, the olfactory, even the feeling of others’ perspective, and so on.

There is an unforgettable example for me to explain my viewpoint. Last year, Hong Kong occurred Umbrella Revolution. One day, I got into a restaurant for lunch. The television there was playing the news report of the conflict the day before. An uncle told the strangers how worse the campaign was after he saw the report. At the same time, there was another customer who had taken a newspaper refuted the viewpoint of the uncle. He took the viewpoint and the photos from the newspaper as an argument.
Umbrella Revolution, 2014
All I want to explain is that a situation can be separated to different points of view on different media images to different audiences. Television is a medium to express the information of the situation. At the same time, newspaper is a medium to express the information of the situation as well. Recently, there are amount of opinions argued that bias existed in Hong Kong TV news report, especially in the largest broadcast television network, because of the stability maintenance. However, the pity is that TV are the most convenient and easiest way of the older generation to get the information. As seeing is believing, their mindset was controlled by incomplete report. Because of those incomplete report, it caused people, who are not in the scene, had different opinions.

Although the camera never lie and the picture can show the situation, the photographers can lie! Thus, I cannot make a conclusion to what extent the media images are detached from the external world. After all, it is related to the people who want to present the truth they saw with what kind of motivation they have.

media image detached from the external world

To a large extent that media images detached from the external world, such as the news happened from the past few months, it is about a question of offer the seat to the needed. Especially Ming Pao have give a news about the journalist went to take MTR in purpose and seeing a young man not offer the seat to the woman who is carrying her baby. As before already a lot of people post in Facebook or forums that some young people sitting on the priority seat or not giving a seat to the needed people. After this event and before those photos in Facebook, many people start to argue why the journalist need to do this kind of thing as Ming Pao is a media organization and why we are not having a right to sit? It show that the media have created an image that we must give out a seat to the people that the society think is in need and many people start not sitting in the priority seat afraid capture by the others. The media become a judger to judge the things is right or wrong and easily will let the youngers think we just can stand because we are young without any right of siting.

The relationship between media images and external reality is “ ideal and the real”. The media usually pack the things so pretty and using a overstate method to make the people think that it is perfect but the real is usually let us feed disappoint and it is hard to let us accept. Another example, the advertisements usually post out slim is beauty and show just eating this kind of medicine you can slim so fast, however the truth usually is bloodiness, the way get yourself more thin the way is doing more exercises and eat healthy not just the medicine. These kinds of media usually let us have a ideal mind we have a shortcut the make the things perfect but the real is the world don’t have any shortcut, you should walk every step by yourself.  (350 words)

Media images and external reality

Media images and external reality

In the media era, Media is a human necessity daily. Most people they read the news watch the drama or movie in their phone. And a lot of movie and drama are adaptation by book and fictitious facts. I believe the story contents of touch with reality. In this generation media images detached from the external world, when people post some news in the social media, the viewer cant respectively the news are truth or not truth because the news and video can edit the writer can create the story they want the viewer believe. A lot of people addicted of the media . Like the Sherlock Holmes, DC and Marvel superheroes etc. that all from comic, book character not real but when that story become movie and film, make the audience believe that become real and that make us detached the external world. I support the media images detached the reality. Because the media images are create from people, all the creation have the writer want to send the message to audience so the creation not accord reality that not a surprise because every people have their ideal idea that make their creation the media images not accord social reality .

The images detached from the external world

Nowadays, technologies is everywhere.  It becomes fully integrated in our daily life.  Also, most of the media present in a image format.  For example, advertisements and photos.  However, we can noticed that some of the images are detached from the external world.  The images may not same as the real world and it may has a big difference between images and external world.

Many people will attract by those printed and online advertisement, they are willing to buy and enjoy the services and products. However, the product may not fulfill and satisfy their expectations as those products are in bad quality.

Let's take Café de Coral as an example.  The photos that show on their menu and advertisement are beautiful and good quality.  Customers are interested to try their new products and food after watching their advertisements.  However, when they go to Café de Coral to have the same meal, the real one and the image are not the same.  It has a big difference between the real and the image.  The images in the advertisement just show the best and well prepared products.  The food put in a order way tidily.  But when people order the same meal, the chicken leg becomes smaller and untidy, it lowers the expectation of the customers.

In conclusion, I think that most of the images in the external world are not trustful as those images may have some changes and just show their best way to customers, but not the real one in the real life.  Images act like  the information for customers.  However, in the external world, images may disappear and the customers just see the fact.  They will lower their confident in trusting the images that post everywhere.

Media images change your destiny.

In this 21st century, advertising is a thing which appear around our daily life. Advertising give us information, it reminds us what we need. Advertising can let us know more about the world. But, some of the advertising are exaggerated and faulty statements. Those media images detached reality, they make people change.

Take some beauty salon as an example. Most of the beauty salon told you that skin whitening is everything, you need to moisturize your skin to change yourself or to make you shine. These advertising give you an impression that skin whitening can change your destiny. In fact, there still one thing call "inner beauty". In chinese, inner beauty is more important, but the advertising make people believe your skin is the most important. Actually, a people with a kind, helpful heart is more important and the real is that advertising change your destiny.

Besides, in comics or cartoons, they also stereotype the bad character. They have mustache, big nose, bump chin and special sound (high tone or low tone). But in reality, not all people in these feature are villain and not all the villain are in these feature. There are still some people are villain but in normal face. This make people misunderstanding with some nice people.

Last, there are many many example can proof that media images really detached from the reality. It can't say they are really different, but they are not represent the reality.

Relationship between media images and the external reality

Nowadays, we can see many advertisements hyperbolic in the society. The city is flooded with supplementary class advertisements, so many parents hope that their children can better than others, they need to have piano classes, swimming classes...study more and more. When they grow up, they hope children have a good result in their school exam, supplementary classes are the most suitable place for improve themselves to have good result in public examinations, so that they can go to the University. All the supplementary classes’ advertisements will shape into a variety of teacher image, such as “kung fu” tutors, they will tell you that when you finish their classes, you will know all the special skills and you can be the best. In many case, some teachers guess the exam topic correctly. For example, in 2007, one of the teachers guessed the CE Chinese writing topic was cold lemon tea correctly. After that year, so many people want to join his classes, since they believed that the teacher can help them to handle the public examination.

In earlier have a news about Modern Education invite YY Lam to join them, his annual salary is $85000000.We can see that the education industry make a lot of money, because of all the parents that their children can be the best. Both advertisements need to attract the attention of parents, told them that they can satisfy their needs. I think that so many media images are come from our needs.

Media images and the external world

Media images are detached from the external world to a certain extent. I watched Aladdin a lot when I was a primary school students, it was a cartoon series with fantasy and musical elements produced by Disney in 1992. It actually represents the concept of "Orientalism" since there are orientalist views of the western countries that can be found in the series. The main character - Aladdin indeed represents as a typical model of the western stereotype of the Arabs. In the movie, Aladdin is poor and dirty. Besides, he is a beggar and he loves to steal other people's property at the beginning of the story. The social phenomenon, such as extreme wealth between the rich and the poor, and the behavior of avarice are also shown in the movie. Another interesting aspect is that the film actually shapes Middle East as a very dangerous and uncivilized place where there are a lot of desert and monster.

Media images and the external reality can be closely related although most of the media images are edited and published by the authors in order to achieve specific goals nowadays, such as create noises and gimmicks in the society or making profits to them. However, it may represent some of the truth although it only contains and reflects certain sides of the story/event. Therefore, we ought to think critically when we are absorbing different kinds of media images.
