The Relationship between media images and external reality

Media image is one of the resources that people getting information from somewhere. It can means a lot of thing, for example, photo, shop window, poster or even an advertisements. I would like to focus on how photo images affected our society now a days.

Photo images it can be a photo or picture of some product or an evidence. It can tell people what the product are or how was it happened. But those images were controlling by the companies or organizations. They will choose the best images to show that how better or how it happened to the people, for example, MacDonald food menu. Macdonald had found some experts the take photo for their food. Because they wanted make the food more attractive. Like the Big mac photo. But the truth is photo no.2. On the left hand side, that photo was being designed as a perfect match with those cheese, bread and Hamburg Beef. On the other side is the real Big Mac. People are attracted by the photo no.1. So they will go the Macdonald and buy a Big Mac. That’s how images works on our society, getting people attention with their product or something.

Photo images not only drawing people attention, it can tell people information as well. Photo image is also representing the company or organization the point of view. For example, Macdonald is selling burger, KFC is selling deep fly chicken etc. When people saw the photo image about Macdonald, they will think about burger. It’s because the image told them that Macdonald was selling burger. So there is an ideology created inside people’s head. When people saw anything about Macdonald, they will think of burger automatically.

The relationship between media images and the external reality is unbreakable. When people don’t see any more about the media images, they will not only lost an opportunity to learn something news, they might have a suspicion about the truth as well.

  1. Dear Patrick, The power of image is nicely discussed. There is discussion about the reasons for image manipulation. When you say "ideology created in people's head," what kind of ideology do you refer to?
