First of all, we have to separate the media with
the external world, as they are actually different form the beginning. For
example, the drama show we can watch in the television. Just like the story we
read in fiction, they are entirely not real. It makes people think that it
brings wrong notion to them, the reason is people mixed up the drama with the
reality.
To talk about the advertisements that keep touch
with urban people like you and I everyday. Someone complained that the effect
that people after using the product in the advertisements are overstate from
the real. The fact is advertisement maker have to add their creativity in the
advertisement to magnify the selling point of the product to attract the
audience. You can say they are detached from the external world. However, the
salesperson works in the retail sales are also selling you with overstated
contents. It is the selling method in the commercial activity make everything
overstated first but not the media.
News is the category that hard to illustrate. Sometimes
we can see the news on the Internet that the newspaper office recaps the video
with Internet users and their telling of the story, then to post these video
and narration as news. This news should not real because the one-sided
narration of the Internet user cannot mean the whole story as the Internet user
may add his subjective and maybe there are another inside story behind. So you
can say some news are detached from the external world. Besides, news aims to
bring the real story to people to know what is happened in the world. But the
“real” that happened may never fully represent again as there are many details
that people may overlook. Although news have to be impartial, the reporter is
just a human, it is hard to avoid some subjective thinking will be include in
the news.
Therefore, it is not the media images detached from
the external world. It is talking about the media images is actually different
with the external world from the very beginning.
