It is a picture of Egypt famous structure called
the “Temple of Oracle”. I found it on the “Lonely Planet” because it is a good example
to present how media images detached from the external world. I believe it is
most of the people would think about Egypt, only dessert or pyramid and full of
old structures like this. In short, Egypt is so uncivilized because they don’t have
any modern building and city.
But the truth is, Egypt is a civilized city and they
have lots of modern building and even a riverbank. It is sort of advertisement of
the lonely planet because they separate the “real” Egypt and peoples’ impression
of Egypt.
The purpose of separate the reality and the images of Egypt because it
increases the feeling to people Egypt is not civilized and waiting them to
discover. They create a situation or an idea that the place is still
traditional and old to increase the impression of old Egypt.
They are memories
and history of Egypt and people come to see them. Perhaps they don’t really want
if foreigners have seen the picture of modern Egypt would be disappointed because
the pyramid and desert are the main reason they visit Egypt. Not only about Egypt
but lots of these images are always avoid the reality because modern is not “welcome”
than traditional.

ReplyDeleteDear Manho, You make use of an appropriate example to illustrate the power of image. The possible reason for the representation of Egypt is also mentioned. You can make use of the terms learnt in class in your discussion. At least you can mention representation.
